ReSTOR intraocular lens
Peoria and Bloomington, Illinois
This a stationary lens implant, like ReZoom, and can provide distance and near vision simultaneously. Rather than having three separate focusing zones like ReZoom, the ReSTOR lens focuses vision using an "apodized" surface. This gives the lens a gradual blending of focusing power across the entire lens surface.
With the ReSTOR lens, 97 percent of people can see both distance objects (road signs) and near objects (reading material within 1 to 2 feet) without difficulty, especially in good light. Arm's length vision (the computer screen, for example) at 2 to 3 feet is less clear, and more people (approximately 18 %) will need glasses for tasks at this distance. This lens is designed to give better distance vision in dim light. Eighty percent of ReSTOR patients never wear their glasses.
However, 5 percent of people with ReSTOR do notice significant haloes or glare around lights at night. Neither ReZoom nor ReSTOR multifocal IOLs may be ideal choices for people who do a great deal of night driving. People with astigmatism also often do not receive optimal vision correction.
Individual results may vary considerably from patient to patient and significant surgical complications can occur with any lens implant. A consultation with one of our surgeons will help you decide if multifocal intraocular lenses are right for you.
