NearVision CK

Peoria and Bloomington, Illinois

Conductive Keratoplasty

NearVision CK (Conductive Keratoplasty) is intended for people over 40 who want to improve their near vision and reduce their dependence on reading glasses. It is an exciting advancement in vision correction because it is a simple, painless, minimally invasive procedure that uses safer radio frequency (RF) energy instead of a laser.

CK changes how the eye focuses light by reshaping the surface of your eye (cornea). This reshaping is accomplished by using RF energy to heat and shrink the corneal tissue. This steepens the cornea and allows light to properly focus on the retina, thereby improving near vision.

Benefits of NearVision CK include:

  • No laser or incisions - eliminates many of the risks and side effects of other surgical vision correction procedures
  • Convenience - procedure can be performed in your doctor's office in 3 to 5 minutes
  • Safety - the only FDA-approved technology used to improve near vision in those over 45
  • Quick recovery time

Causes of near vision loss

When most of us reach our mid-40s, our eyes begin losing their ability to easily focus on near objects. This can be the result of two different conditions:

  • Presbyopia - occurs when the lens in the eye loses flexibility. This causes problems in the way our eyes focus light. Most people over age 45 and everyone over age 50 suffers from this condition to some degree.

Ideal candidates for NearVision CK

If you are over the age of 40, had great vision your whole life, and now struggle with reading glasses, you may be a candidate for CK. If you are pregnant or nursing, have other chronic eye disorders, or have other chronic illnesses or diseases, you may not be a good candidate. Also, if you have experienced significant changes in your vision over the last year, you may not be a good candidate.

People with myopia (nearsightedness) are not good candidates for conductive keratoplasty. All patients considering vision correction should undergo a complete examination by a doctor prior to the procedure.
