James A. Knupp, M.D.

knuppDr. James A. Knupp offers a wide variety of comprehensive services in general ophthalmology. His special interests include diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, cataract surgery with lens implant, and pediatric ophthalmology focusing on strabismus and nasolacrimal duct surgery.

Educational background

Dr. Knupp graduated cum laude from Ohio State University and received his medical degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1978, where he was also awarded the Samuel J. Roessler Research Fellowship Award. He completed an internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and residency training at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He completed a fellowship in neuro- ophthalmology at Baylor University in Houston, Texas in 1983, and completed another fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at the University of Texas in 1984.

He has published a number of articles in professional journals, as well as lectured for many societies and universities in the fields of pediatric and neuro-ophthalmology. He was an Associate Professor in the Division of Ophthalmology with the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine from 1987 to 1993. He has been in private practice since that time.
