High Performance Vision with Allegretto Wave LASIK
The Alegretto Wave laser that we use features a unique approach to corneal sculpting. The normal curve of a healthy cornea is higher in the center, or prolate. Older laser technologies flatten the central area to create an oblate-shaped cornea. This shape causes spherical aberration, which can reduce the quality of vision, especially at night, and produces glare or halos.
The Allegretto Wave laser uses a proprietary system to adjust to the natural shape of the cornea and reshape it based on this prolate curve. This treatment method is the main reason for the excellent quality of both day and night vision the Allegretto Wave laser produces.
What is Advanced Surface Ablation?
Advanced Surface Ablation (ASA) is the procedure of choice for patients that are not good candidates for LASIK because of certain eye conditions such as thin corneas or dry eyes that prevent the safe creation of the LASIK corneal flap. The main advantage of ASA is its simplicity. The results are identical to LASIK except that the healing time is slightly longer.
In ASA, the very top layer of the eye is gently removed and the Allegretto Wave laser is used to resculpt the cornea. A special soft contact lens is placed on the eye until the surface layer has healed-usually in four to six days.
